Training Programs


Club Oly Road Runners sponsors multiple training programs throughout the year: a 5-mile, half marathon and a full marathon training program for the Capital City Marathon in May and an informal fall marathon/half marathon training group.

Capital City 5 Mile Training Group

This program, led by certified running coaches and Club Oly members, is a 15 week program designed for new runners, returning runners with limited experience, and those who have no running experience who want to make a positive change in their lives. 

Using the walk/run method with as little as 20 to 30 minutes of walking and jogging, just 3 times a week, we can help just about anyone reach their goal of running a five mile race.  We invite runners and walkers of all abilities to join us!  

Training Schedule: we meet during the week on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:00 pm at Marathon Park and on Saturdays at the old South Sound Running, soon to be Fleet Feet store, at 8:30 am. The training group will begin on February 1 at 9:00 am this year with a kickoff meeting.

Registration fee is $50.00 which also includes a running shirt and full year of Club Oly membership in addition to the 15 week training program. The fee does not include entry to the race at Capital City Marathon.

FALL PROGRAM

Each summer, Club Oly offers an informal training group for runners preparing for fall marathons or half marathons. Led by an experienced coaching staff, the training group runs from June until October (when many fall distance races are scheduled.)  The group meets outside South Sound Running on Saturday mornings at 7:30 am (during very hot weather, we move the start time to 7:00 am). The length of the runs gradually increase over the course of the training group. Water stations are organized for the longer runs and we have guest speakers to offer advice on preparing for your marathon or half marathon. The fall trainings are included in your annual membership.


Capital City Marathon & Half Marathon Training Group for 2025

Club Oly is partnering with the Capital City Marathon this year to lead the training group in preparation for the marathon and half marathon distances.

The introductory breakfast will be Saturday, January 11 at 7:30 am at the old South Sound Running/soon to be Fleet Feet store.

First Run: Saturday Jan 18, 7:30 at the old South Sound Running/soon to be Fleet Feet store.

The training group will include membership in Club Oly for 2025.
